Inspired Highlanders

This past summer, I completed my second year as NJIT’s president, and I continue to be inspired by the people of our university community — students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends — and their Highlander stories. Those stories recount a deep history of accomplishments and a determination to use individual talents and opportunities to better our society and our world.

Our cover story for this issue is a perfect example of what happens when someone of extraordinary ability and vision finds support and opportunities at NJIT. Jordan Hu ’89 came to NJIT in pursuit of a dream, and here he found everything he needed to make that dream a reality. Now, he is reaching back in a historic manner to assure that future generations of Highlanders will have the support, the tools, and the opportunities to replicate his success. Our entire university is grateful to Jordan for all he has done for NJIT throughout his life. I hope you enjoy his Highlander story.

This issue of NJIT Magazine also highlights an inspiring mentoring relationship and an interesting historical view of the NJIT campus as an industrial transportation hub in the publication’s other feature articles. Jumping from the past to the future, we also report on a significant new investment by NJIT in the field of artificial intelligence. Additionally, this issue covers exciting research developments, impressive university rankings and accolades, important data in the President’s Corner and the accomplishments of many NJIT community members. None of these achievements, individual or collective, would be possible without the generosity so many of you have shown to NJIT, and those individuals are acknowledged in the donor Honor Roll contained along with this issue. You all have the thanks and appreciation of the entire NJIT community, and I hope you enjoy reading this issue’s Highlander stories and are as inspired by them as am I.

Sincerely,
Teik C. Lim
President
